Ash and the Endings is a five-piece alternative rock band from Austin, Texas, nearing their third year as a staple in the city's rock community. The group explores stylings of indie, classic, and psychedelic rock with dynamic twists and turns. Ashton Chase, or "Ash", fronts the band with belting contralto vocals and Jagger-like swagger. "The Endings", comprised of Luis Meza (lead guitar), Conor Kelch (piano, rhythm guitar, vocals), WK Wahlert, (bass, vocals), and Jamie Foster (drums), play with originality and fervor. The group is known for its three-part harmonies, tight performance and timing, and creates a sound similar to groups like Shannon & The Clams, Paramore, & Fleetwood Mac.
Ash and the Endings has been featured twice on Austin's NPR Station, KUTX, and has toured Houston, Austin, Bisbee, Phoenix, Santa Monica, and Las Vegas. "Twenty One" and "Fallen Moon" are the first A Side/B Side single release by Ash and the Endings. "Twenty One" was inspired directly by their very first tour stop in the desert town of Bisbee, Arizona, and tells the story of a 21 year old who shoots his town sherif and is left fatally wounded. B side track "Fallen Moon" shows a contrasting hard rock style and is meant to be an episode of a strange space opera. *Produced by Alek Hand (Fiasco Sounds) - Austin, Texas.
"Victor's Trap" is the third stand-alone single released by Ash and the Endings, and is nearing 15k streams! This alternative psych-rock song is written and composed by Ash and the Endings guitarist & vocalist Conor Kelch. He says, "Lyrically, the song is about just how many people out there I suspect fall into the camp of not being attractive enough for online dating despite being very kind people, and how those apps have created a reality where only the objectively attractive have any hope. It's also a comment on the music industry often prioritizing outward appearance over musical ability. Musically, I was trying to write something that sounded a little grungy and rough while still sounding beautiful. The major 7 chords and 9s are subconsciously digging for beauty while the guitar tones are trying to demonstrate something more scratchy." *Produced by Alek Hand (Fiasco Sounds) - Austin, Texas.
"Squelching Sneaks!" is the the second single release by Ash and the Endings. Written the day after Roe v Wade was overturned and still feeling the pain of the nearby Uvalde school shooting, this blues-rock song explores the frustration of those whose rights remain a fixation by the elderly men in power, while the violent and pressing issues around us never seem to change. *Produced by Alek Hand (Fiasco Sounds) - Austin, Texas.
"Austin Flower Co" is the first single release by Ash and The Endings. The jangly composition was inspired by the 60's Mod Rock movement. The lyrics were inspired by local Austin business, "Austin Flower Co"--whose eccentricities call back to an older Austin. *Produced by Alek Hand (Fiasco Sounds) - Austin, Texas.
"Ash and the Endings" is the group's eponymous first EP and first release. The seven-track EP explores different rock genres, subject matters, tempos, and dynamics. The attitudey but light-hearted "Rosa" jokes about a woman who can't stop herself from ordering takeout because she's in love with a delivery driver. Somber but powerful "McKenzie" explores the phenomena of dreaming about the dead. "Molly" is a story of a child who doesn't understand what their parents' gun is and brings it to school. Spooky and high-and-slow energy "George" is a recounting of a man and his wife's impending death in a care facility. Novelty song "Shake Shake" is, simply put, a narrative of a rowdy bar fight. Retro tune "Woman (It's Up To You)" was directly inspired by film "The Last of the Mohicans".
*All tracks were recorded by Paradise Lunch in Austin, Texas, other than "Woman (It's Up To You), which was recorded by Joe Valadez at Austin Community College. All tracks were mixed and mastered by Josean Rodriguez.
